Airport strike chaos around the corner
The traditional bank holiday bun fight at airports around the UK looks set to worsen this year as baggage handlers have announced yet another airport strike.
Gatwick and Stansted passengers have already heard the news that handlers at these airports plan to strike on the days around the August bank holiday weekend – August 27 and September 1 – and now those travelling from Manchester will be affected too as handlers’ union Unite announced industrial action there too.
And with handlers at Birmingham and Newcastle to be balloted shortly, passengers across the country could be affected by the walk outs.
Those flying with Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, KLM, Air France, Monarch, First Choice, Thompsonfly, Easyjet and Ryanair (among others) should check with airline staff on airport arrival about the status of flights.
The chaos factor, however, is not confined to the airports. London Underground workers will also be staging a 72-hour strike from midday today (Wednesday) until midday August 23.
