Alaska Airlines: going to the dogs?
It was bad enough that federal regulators proposed a half million dollar fine against Alaska Airlines for flying with inadequate equipment but now the airline has a dog problem.
Specifically, a woman shipping her border collie watched from the terminal as a baggage handler hoisted her dog’s crate above his head and threw the pup into the cargo hold.
The dog survived, but the owner called the news media.
The airline also faces the half-million dollar fine for safety violations that include flying without emergency lighting for two months. But even after the lighting was replaced, the airline flew for two more weeks with the wrong replacement part, according to The Seattle Times.
The fine is still pending but if is goes through, it would be the second largest fine against the airline since 1998.
The FAA fined Alaska $988,500 in 2000 after a comprehensive safety audit conducted after the crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 earlier that year.
