All efforts into more tourists for Fiji
The Tourism Advisory Group in Fiji have said that they are putting all their efforts into bringing more tourists to Fiji with TAG Chairman Damend Gounder saying that the numbers of tourists visiting Fiji at this time of this month well below that of last year and it is critical that they restore confidence in Fiji as a destination.
He added that five star hotels are experiencing low occupancy as low as 30% and that is very worrying trend for the industry with TAG organising a mini fiesta for agents and others from overseas in the main street of Nadi during BFTE.
Representative of Yasawa Backpackers and Resource Owners Association Ratu Meli Bogileka said that TAG should not only concentrate on five star hotels but also on backpackers not only in the Yasawas but also in other parts of Fiji, adding that dicounted fares offered by Air Pacific should be encouraging tourists to take advantage of backpacking resorts in the Yasawas and away from the urban centres of Fiji.
He said that some tourists are looking for the free life away from the resorts seeking no disturbance and that they are receiving a minimal amount of backpackers to the Yasawas and Manaucas.
