Amadeus online fares calendar ‘to improve shopping experience and drive conversion’
Amadeus has developed a calendar for online travel agencies enabling them to display prices, multiple carriers and a range of dates.
The Master Pricer Calendar, which returns up to 200 options, could replace the lists of offers travel websites currently present after a search.
It is hoped the solution will improve the online shopping experience and help convert bookings by enabling online shoppers to compare dates and prices from international carriers in a calendar-style grid.
Amadeus marketing director Elaine Seeto said: “It also enables online agencies to upsell because they not only see the cheapest fare but also other fares with more flexibility. It is an opportunity to increase revenue.”
Amadeus also believes the solution will drive more bookings online because there will be less need for people to pick up the phone to call-centres.
Similar technology already used by airlines has shown a decrease of up to 70% in the number of calls to call-centres.
The technology also reduces hits to the airlines’ systems by storing fare and price information and updating it at frequent intervals during the day.
Online agencies can tailor the front-end to suit their requirements and include things like airline logos.
Master Pricer Calendar has no customers yet and will not be available until mid-August.
The plan is to hold workshops and present the technology to customers individually although some companies including Airline Network have already expressed an interest.
Amadeus’ latest recruit, sales director Julian Mills, will be charged with promoting the technology as part of his role.
Mills described Amadeus’ technology as ‘streets ahead,’ of everyone else and said he had joined because of the current technology investment.
