Amalfi Coast limiting tourist traffic
Italy’s picturesque Amalfi Coast is taking action to end the miles-long summer traffic jams which plague the region.
Officials hope to halve tourist traffic on the road by imposing an odd-even number plate system.
Cars can only access the coastal road on alternate days, depending on their odd or even number plate. .
It is applicable during the daytime in August, weekends from mid-June to the end of September, and during the Easter holiday.
Residents of the 13 towns along the coast between Vietri sul Mare and Positano are exempt, is public transport and taxis.
It has been welcomed by some but not all local businesses.
The Federalberghi Salerno local hotel association says it will cause confusion and prevent self-drive holidaymakers from reaching their hotels located along the 22-mile stretch of coast road.
