Amazon reportedly in talks for a stake in Indonesia’s Go-Jek
E-commerce titan Amazon has reportedly held talks with Indonesian ride hailing service Go-Jek over a possible investment.
The Wall Street Journal cited an unnamed source familiar with the matter but no other details were disclosed.
Neither company publically commented with Amazon declining to respond to ‘rumors and speculation.’
According to people in the know Amazon could agree an investment which would give it access to Go-Jek’s delivery infrastructure.
It makes sense as one of the most populous nations in the world.
The current e-commerce competition is dominated by local or regional players like Tokopedia, Lazada Group and Shopee, in part due to the infrastructure difficulties in a nation spread across 17,000 islands.
Go-Jek’s food delivery service Go-Food is well established and partners with several e-tailers for home deliveries in selected regions.
Go-Jek has raised more than $1 billion this year at a valuation of about $10 billion.
