American Airlines aims to be first US carrier to restart Venezuela flights
American Airlines plans to be the first US carrier to resume flights to Venezuela.
It comes as the Trump Administration said that US-Venezuela flights will likely soon be permitted again.
The Federal Aviation Administration banned US airlines from flying to Venezuelan several weeks ago.
“We have a more than 30-year history connecting Venezolanos to the US, and we are ready to renew that relationship,” said Nat Pieper, American’s Chief Commercial Officer.
“By restarting service to Venezuela, American will offer customers the opportunity to reunite with families and create new business and commerce with the US.”
American Airlines said it ‘remains in close contact with federal authorities, and is ready to commence flights to Venezuela, pending government approval.’
President Trump said Americans ‘will very shortly be able to go to Venezuela, and will be safe there. It’s under very strong control.’
American began flying to Venezuela in 1987.
The airline will announce additional details about the return to service to Caracas in the coming months.
