American Airlines amenity kits go retro
Aviation history buffs take note: American Airlines is bringing back to life some of the iconic airline brands of yesteryear.
Familiar names such as America West, Reno Air and TWA will take flight again – in the form of amenity kits aboard American flights.
Retro amenity kits will be offered to first and business class passengers as American honors its predecessors which have shaped the current airline into the world’s largest.
"We have more than 100,000 employees, each with their own unique story, and these retro amenity kits are a small tribute to the heritage of their careers and their legacy carriers," said Fernand Fernandez, American’s vice president, global marketing.
"Customers will also identify with the historic logos and colors of the companies that now form the fabric of the modern-day American Airlines."
The kits will be rolled out in phases in the branding of predecessors AirCal, Allegheny, America West, Piedmont, PSA, Reno Air and Trans World Airways (TWA).
There will also be retro American Airlines branded kits and one from US Airways, itself a brand that will be eventually consigned to history as the merger continues apace.
The kits will be available for business class on international flights and in first and business on transcontinental services from New York JFK to Los Angeles and San Francisco and from Los Angeles to Miami.
