American Airlines diverted to Heathrow after windscreen shattered
An American Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow after its windscreen shattered.
The flight from Milan to New York, carrying 183 passengers and 12 crew, ran into problems shortly after take-off from Milan.
It is unclear what caused the windscreen to shatter, which are designed to cope with high air pressure and bird strikes.
Hail has previously been held responsible.
A spokesman for the airline, who apologised for the inconvenience, said passengers were put on alternative flights from London to New York.
