American Airlines flight diverted after losing winglet
An American Airlines flight had to be diverted after turbulence damaged one of the plane’s wings.
The flight to Dallas-Fort Worth diverted to Birmingham, Alabama, and landed safely after the Embraer jet lost a winglet. It was taken out of service for a full inspection.
The airline initially confirmed a ‘possible mechanical issue’ The pilot’s report cited ‘moderate to severe turbulence resulting in the loss of a portion of the wing.’
