American Airlines introducing pre-departure Covid-19 testing
American Airlines is the next airline to offer pre-flight Covid-19 testing for customers.
It will offer tests for passengers headed to Jamaica and Hawaii, and hopes to expand it for other destinations.
It will be phased in for Jamaican residents traveling home via American’s hub at Miami, and will likely be expanded to all flyers.
A negative test allows arrivals to avoid the 14-day quarantine.
It will offer tests at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for Hawaii-bound travelers from 15 October.
"Our plan for this initial phase of pre-flight testing reflects the ingenuity and care our team is putting into rebuilding confidence in air travel, and we view this as an important step in our work to accelerate an eventual recovery of demand," American President Robert Isom said.
American said the testing program could be expanded to the Bahamas and other Caribbean countries next.
It is already in advanced talks with Bahamas officials.
