American Airlines launches real time bag tracking service
American Airlines is the latest carrier to roll out a live tracking service for checked baggage.
The service allows flyers to check the status of bags in real time via GPS, GSM and Bluetooth technology.
Passengers are required input their name and record locator or the bag tag number on the AA bag tracking site to receive updates.
The airline follows merger partner US Airways and Delta Air Lines which offer a similar service.
Air France-KLM also has a tracking tool with reusable electronic bag tags.
Luggage manufacturer Tumi recently announced the upcoming launch of the Tumi Global Locator tracking service using wireless tech to track bags regardless of which airline a passenger is travelling on.
The FAA compliant service is due to begin by the end of this year.
