American Airlines to launch first Cuba flights from LA
Los Angeles is the latest metro area to get direct flights to Cuba.
American Airlines said it would begin offering charter flights from LA to Havana, in partnership with Cypress based tour operator Cuba Travel Services.
Weekly flights will operate from December on Boeing 737s and will become the first direct service to Havana from the West Coast, American said.
The charter flights are only the start, American said as it impatiently waits for further travel restrictions to be lifted by the US administration.
"We stand ready to offer scheduled service as soon as the United States and Cuba allow commercial flights," said Art Torno, a senior vice president at American Airlines.
American also offers flights to Cuba from its Florida hubs in Miami and Tampa.
