American Airlines to launch flights to Tokyo Haneda in February

American Airlines will begin flying from Los Angeles to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport next February.

The year-round service will operate daily from February 11, 2016 on Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.

"It’s important for our customers to have direct access to Tokyo Haneda, and we’ll be proud to serve this key airport from Los Angeles," said Andrew Nocella, American’s chief marketing officer.

"This new flight is a fantastic addition to our growing network to Asia and a great complement to our existing service to Tokyo Narita. We thank the Japanese authorities for working with us to find appropriate slot times, and the U.S. Department of Transportation and the State Department for facilitating the process."

This will likely bring to an end the war of words between American and Delta Air Lines over available landing slots at Haneda Airport.

Delta had previously been in possession of the slots but gave them back to the US Department of Transportation.

They were then passed on to American but Delta later complained saying American had not started the service in a timely manner.

Trans-Pacific landing slots at Haneda, Tokyo’s most centrally located airport, are highly sought after.
