American Airlines will share Boeing compensation with employees
American Airlines said it will share some of the proceeds of compensation from Boeing with employees.
The airline is in talks with the plane maker over a compensation claim for what will likely be a full year of inactivity for its 24 Boeing 737 Max jets.
The aircraft were grounded in March and will not likely get clearance to fly again until beyond March 2020.
A spokesman for American says they are in discussions ‘as to what that compensation looks like’ and may not be all monetary compensation.
It could even be paid in part in training or spare parts.
Some of the compensation will be added to the employee profit sharing scheme, American said.
Boeing has reached an initial settlement with Southwest Airlines.
American has canceled thousands of flights due to the grounding and estimates its full-year 2019 pre-tax income will take a $540 million hit as a result.
