American cancels hundreds of flights due to staff shortages
A surge in travel demand is causing unexpected problems for American Airlines and for some disappointed travelers.
The airline canceled hundreds of flights this weekend due to a perfect storm of staffing shortages and maintenance issues.
About 6% if its entire schedule on Sunday was canceled. About half of the 180 canceled flights were due to a lack of available flight crew. American said it would cut its overall schedule by about 1% until at least mid-July to help ease some of the disruptions.
