Anantara heads for the Empty Quarter
DUBAI – The Anantara Hotel Group, a subsidiary of Bangkok-based hotel and hospitality conglomerate Minor International, will open its five-star Qasr Al Sarab hotel in Abu Dhabi’s Rub Al Khali desert by the end of the year.
The Qasr Al Sarab is the first luxury hotel property to be built in the sands of the Rub Al Khali desert, Arabia’s Empty Quarter.
It is located in the Liwa Oasis and will comprise 150 hotel rooms and 60 private villas, surrounded by some of the world’s highest sand dunes.
It will be accessible by road or by a 90-minute flight from Abu Dhabi airport to a hotel-owned private landing strip in the dunes.
Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Investment and Development Company (TIDC) is the investor in the US$176 million hotel project and Anantara is the manager.
Anantara recently opened its five-star resort on Sir Bani Yas Island off the coast of Abu Dhabi.
