Another bomb found on French railway
French rail authorities are once more on a high state of alert after a bomb was discovered buried under track 90 miles east of Paris. As reported by News From Abroad in recent weeks, a group calling itself AZF has threatened to explode bombs under trains unless the French government meets a ransom demand of more than £3 million. An explosive device was found near the town of Limoges last month. Yesterday’s discovery, according to the Independent, was made after the group repeated its threat to attack the French rail network. The bomb was reportedly found on the line between Paris and Basle, and was made of nitrate heating fuel, a small plastic box, a kitchen timer and firework detonators. The French railway company SNCF has now – for the second time in a few weeks – ordered workers to inspect every section of the 20,000-mile network. Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
