Another delay for Doha airport opening
The New Doha International Airport (NDIA) has been delayed until the second half of 2013.
The latest delay is due to the airport operator parting company with a key contractor, according to an article in The Moodie Report.
The airport has suffered a number of delays and cost blowouts.
When it finally opens, the new airport will triple the country’s previous passenger handling capacity and serve as the new home of Qatar Airways.
It will be nearly twice the size of London’s Heathrow Airport.
Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, and the airport’s chief executive, said that NDIA would be a ground-breaking international airport of the highest quality.
"We want a world-class facility,” he said. "We will not compromise on quality. I think when you put everything together, there will be no other airport of such a high standard."
