Another Gatwick strike this weekend
Gatwick airport is reportedly to be hit by a 48-hour baggage handlers strike this weekend – the seventh such action in recent weeks. According to the Daily Telegraph, hundreds of members of the Transport and General Workers Union, employed by the ground services company Servisair, will leave their posts on Saturday and Sunday. A spokesman for the union is quoted as saying: “Our dispute is not with the travelling public, but very definitely with Servisair.” Servisair’s managing director Andrew Saunders reportedly countered: “The dispute is about one issue only: that of one T&G member of our 1,200 workforce at Gatwick who is not willing to abide by the company’s disciplinary process that has been agreed by all parties including the T&G. “We have always been available for talks but the T&G’s preconditions prevent any progress.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad Ltd
