Another runway near miss as FAA hosts air safety summit

The Federal Aviation Administration is holding a safety summit today just after another aircraft collision near miss took place.
The NTSB is investigating after two planes were simultaneously approved for takeoff by different air traffic controllers at Reagan National Airport.
It set them on course for a possible collision but one plane was ordered to abort in time.
The plane was halted before it became a runway incursion, the agency said.
It is the latest of several aircraft collision close calls in the past few weeks, which are to be discussed at the summit.
The summit will be attended by acting FAA Administrator Billy Nolen and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttegeig.
There have been incidents ‘that we don’t expect to see,’ Nolen said.
“We’ve had these events over the past few weeks. Let’s ask ourselves the question: Are we missing anything?”
