AOL and Yahoo to “get into travel”
Online giants Yahoo and AOL have stated their intentions of moving into the “travel search game”, saying that such a move would be crucial to “development and strategy”.
The Financial Times, reporting from the PhoCusWright conference in Los Angeles, quotes Daniel Rosenweig, of Yahoo, as saying: “Travel is one of the most important things we can be doing. It is Yahoos’ goal to get more users looking for more things and keep them clicking on ads.”
Jonathan Miller, of AOL, reportedly said that a search facility would help offset a recent decline in its traditional business of a dial-up internet facility, adding: “We have to be in the search game.”
The two companies are reported to have already made moves in this direction; Yahoo this year bought the metasearch company FareChase, while AOL last week purchased shares in Kayak Software, another metasearch firm.
