App is also for appetiser in Sydney, Melbourne
In an Australian first, Fairfax Media’s iPhone app versions of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age Good Food Guides now enable users to make real-time restaurant reservations from within the app.
Reservations can be made at hundreds of restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne, simply by using the ‘book now’ button on restaurant reviews featured in the Good Food Guide apps.
A free update with the new reservations feature has been sent to all Good Food Guide iPhone apps, thousands of which have been downloaded since they were launched last year.
The new feature is the result of a partnership between Fairfax Media and Dimmi, Australia’s first real-time online restaurant reservations service (www.dimmi.com.au)
Internationally, mobile applications for restaurant reservations are proving hugely popular. According to Techcrunch.com, more than three million diners in the USA have made restaurant bookings from apps in the past year
In Australia, more than a quarter of all bookings made via the Good Food Guide app so far have been for same day bookings, showing the new functionality is a big hit with users wanting to make last-minute restaurant reservations ‘on the go’.
The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age Good Food Guide app is available for download for $9.95 from the Apple iTunes Store.
