April heatwave boosts B&B bookings
~
The mini-heatwave in late April has helped boost bookings for British B&Bs, according to figures from online booking specialists eviivo.
The company’s quarterly National B&B Index shows a spike in forward bookings for B&Bs across the UK for both of the May bank holiday weekends, up 4.4% on last year.
Ed Goldswain, marketing director at eviivo, said: "The May bank holiday is thought to date back to Roman times as a festival honouring the summer season.
“After, quite literally, a beast of a winter, what better way to see in the summer with a break at one of the country’s iconic, family-run B&Bs – a truly traditional British holiday experience."
He said seaside resorts are proving particularly popular over the bank holidays, up 5.7%.
Some of the top performing resorts include Blackpool, Skegness, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Wells-Next-The-Sea.
Booking data was sourced from 6,600 B&Bs UK-wide.
