Artist ‘draws’ convention-goers
Who would have expected artist Salvador Dali to help fill hotels and heat up the temperature of a tepid convention market?
But that’s what is happening in Philadelphia and other markets.
A Dali art show was attributed in large part to higher hotel occupancies.
Tourism officials said hotels there now plan to combine more arts and cultural organizations to sell more hotel packages this summer.
“Hotels have had to become less reliant on convention in recent years as the Pennsylvania Convention Center, which is planning an expansion expected to bring in new business, has seen its business slow,” said the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Hoteliers have responded by setting aside blocks of rooms and offering discounted packages for conventions, sporting events, corporate meetings, tourism groups, wedding planners and others.
“Hotels, both here and in other cities, are increasingly seeing a more intense focus on arts as a way to bring in new business,” said the Journal.
