BAA airports will remain shut until the early huors of tomorrow (Saturday).

"We have been advised by National Air Traffic Services that English airspace remains closed, and that all flights to and from Heathrow and Stansted are suspended until 0100 tomorrow at the earliest," the airports operator said.

"Passengers should not travel to these airports until further notice, and should remain in touch with their airlines.

"There are some exceptions in Scotland but we strongly advise passengers to check the status of their flight with the relevant airline before travelling to the airport.

"We expect NATS to provide a further update around 14.30 today. We appreciate the continued patience of passengers at this difficult time and will provide updates as often as possible."
