Ash turning to steam, say volcano experts

Icelandic officials say that the Grimsvotn volcano has stopped releasing ash and is now just blowing out steam.
Yesterday there was concern that the ash cloud which is currently over northern Germany would return to the UK in time to disrupt flights over the bank holiday weekend.
A host of flights in Europe were delayed or cancelled and some German airports, including those in Berlin, closed.
But meteorologist at the Icelandic Met Office Hrafn Gudmundsson said: “There are indications that it’s ceasing. There’s no plume detected since 0300 GMT and the last plume was around 0210.
"Since then there seems to be mainly steam coming from the crater."
The UK Met office has welcomed the news but remains cautious, warning that new bursts of ash could emerge from Grimsvotn.
