Asiana apologises for in-flight catering debacle

The chairman of Asiana has made a public apology for an in-flight catering snarl up which delayed many flights while others took off with no food onboard.

The snafu seems to be tied to a change in the airline’s in-flight catering contractor recently.

It caused disruptions to flights over several days with more than 100 short haul flights to China and Japan taking off without any food options for passengers.

"I am sorry for causing public concern over Asiana’s in-flight meal crisis," said Park Sam-koo, chairman of Kumho Asiana Group.

The airline recently switched contractors with Gate Gourmet replacing long-time partner LSG Sky Chefs.

The got much worse for Asiana after a subcontractor committed suicide after claiming he was put under intense pressure to meet deadlines because of the supply problems.

Citing a ‘moral responsibiliy’, Park also apologised for the death.

"I also feel very sorry about the tragedy involving the owner of one of our subcontractor suppliers and offer my deepest apology to his family," he said.
