ASTA reveals name change
The American Society of Travel Agents is tweaking its name but will continue using the ‘ASTA’ acronym.
ASTA said it will become the ‘American Society of Travel Advisors,’ a new name which will be formally launched at the ASTA Global Convention in Washington DC later this month.
Subsidiary association the National Association of Career Travel Agents will be brought under the ASTA banner and renamed to ‘ASTA Small Business Network.’
Integrating NACTA members into ASTA comes after extensive consultation with NACTA and ASTA leadership and in part is due to the growing influence of home-based, independent agents.
"By bringing these organizations closer we will be able to strengthen our ability to work together. There will be no ‘two-party’ system anymore, just all ASTA chapter presidents and/or an ASTA Small Business Network chapter president," said ASTA president and CEO Zane Kerby.
NACTA members will be able to join ASTA backed campaigns and the annual ASTA Legislative Day.
Members will also have to adhere to the ASTA code of ethics.
During the Global Convention, ASTA will launch a major awareness campaign to promote the new changes.
