ATF media let off the hook
SINGAPORE – The organisers of next January’s Asean Tourism Forum in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, have told hosted media that their invitation to the event no longer hinges on a requirement to nominate 20 buyers.
In the original invitation from organisers TTG Asia, the travel writers were asked to “nominate 20 buyers worldwide relating to travel trade/leisure travel, with contact information (Full Name/Job Title/Organisation/Tel No./Fax No./Email Address) in MS Excel format, for validation and invitation to ATF TRAVEX Secretariatâ€.
Questions were raised about how this would work, and whether travel writers would simply pick 20 names out of a travel trade directory and send them to the organisers.
TTG Asia now says the requirement to nominate buyers was due to an internal miscommunication, “and it is only optional for hosted media to submit the 20 buyers’ namesâ€.
“Hence it is not compulsory for hosted media to submit 20 buyers’ names at all,†wrote Hanli Tan, TTGAsia assistant marcoms manager.
