Atlanta and Texarkana hot hotel markets

Wednesday, 29 Jan, 2008 0

Atlanta, Georgia and Texarkana, Arkansas, are a long ways off both in distance and temperament but both are sharing at least one thing: hot hotel markets.

Buckhead’s notoriety as Atlanta’s poshest place to live, work, play and shop is exemplified by the influx of luxury hotels into the area.

One reason for Atlanta’s development is that the area has emerged as a regional destination point in recent years.

At the upper end of the spectrum, accommodations range from the boutique 18-room Beverly Hills Inn to the original bar-setting luxury landmark hotel, The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead.

In addition to the Ritz-Carlton, in the ultra category Buckhead boasts the Grand Hyatt Atlanta, JW Marriott, Westin and InterContinental hotels.

Two more multi-star hotels are under construction  —  a 150-room St. Regis from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and The Mansion, a 580-foot-high, 42-story tower developed by City Centre Properties LLC.

Another pair of proposed high-end hotels is scheduled to come on line in the 2008 to 2009 time frame.

In Texarkana, non-luxury properties are booming. But despite a lot of hotel construction the past few years, room occupancy rates remain high and several more hotels are on the drawing boards, according to the city’s Business Journal.

There’s a new Holiday Inn Express and Best Western, according to city officials.
