ATOL holder collapses

Saturday, 03 Jan, 2017 0

ATOL-holder Markhor Traders, which sold packages and flights, ceased trading over the festive period, leaving some customers out of pocket.

The Harrow-based company owned the websites flightmart.co.uk, markosflights.co.uk, travelwithsmile.co.uk, caribbeanvybz.co.uk and markhorflights.com.

The CAA said Markhor sold some non-ATOL products, including package holidays that didn’t include flights, accommodation only and flights paid in full at the time of booking when tickets were issued immediately.

It said that all bookings made after October 30 were also not protected by the company’s ATOL. The company failed on December 19.

The CAA said customers who were still due to travel and were issued with an ATOL certificate and a scheduled flight ticket might still be able to travel but they will have to re-book other elements of the trip, including accommodation, and claim back the cost under the ATOL.

Customers who haven’t been issued with flight tickets will not be able to travel and will have to claim a refund.

The CAA is advising customers with non-ATOL protected bookings who paid with a credit or debit card to claim refunds from their card issuer.
