Aussie airlines improve punctuality
A Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics report says that 87.3% of Australian domestic departures and 86.1% of arrivals were on time, showing a small improvement on 2005 when 86.9% of departures and 85.8% of arrivals were on time, with the percentage of flights cancelled remaining the same at 0.9%
Virgin Blue won the gong for the best on-time departure rate of the three major domestic carriers at 89.3% compared to 87.1% for Qantas and 84.9% for Jetstar, with Jetstar having the lowest cancelled flights at 0.5%.
rex won the gong for the most reliable regional airline, with 88.5% of its departures on time, while QantasLink was at 86.7% and both Macair and Skywest at 84.7%.
Federal Transport Minister Mark Vaile said the Australian aviation industry was performing well, adding, “Australia compares favourably to the United States where on-time performance, measured in terms of arrivals, averaged 75.4% and cancellations averaged 1.71% for the same period.”
