Aussies and foreign cosmetic surgery

Saturday, 17 Oct, 2007 0

One in three Aussies would travel overseas to take advantage of a cut-price cosmetic surgery holiday, a new survey has found, with more than 30 per cent of voters (143 people) saying that a cosmetic surgery holiday would allow them to relax by the pool and save thousands of dollars on surgery.

Leading online travel marketplace TotalTravel.com conducted an online survey over a month which asked “Would you travel overseas for a cut-price cosmetic surgery holiday?”

Many companies offer luxury cosmetic surgery holidays to places like Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand where the cost of cosmetic surgery is lower than that of Australia.

A total of 38.5 per cent (174 people) surveyed said they’d rather stay at home to get cosmetic surgery, where they could see a doctor that they trusted.

The remaining 30 per cent (134 people) said there was no way they would buy a cosmetic surgery holiday – they would prefer an old-fashioned holiday.

TotalTravel.com managing director Malcolm Baker said the survey clearly demonstrated that cosmetic surgery was becoming more acceptable.

“Today’s society is very much centred on the body beautiful,” he said.

“People are very conscious of how they look.” “We’re constantly being bombarded with messages from the media about what we should be eating, how much we should weigh and what we should wear.”

“I’m not surprised that the travel industry is taking advantage of this social trend and that cosmetic surgery holidays have become so popular.”

A total of 451 people responded to the survey.
