Aussies discovering top tour operator

Friday, 07 Nov, 2007 0

Taking time in Australia after a visit to Papua New Guinea, Robin Tauck, president of Tauck World Discovery, told a media lunch hosted by Travel the World in Sydney last week, that Aussies are discovering the “Tauck style abroad”.

The number of Australians taking Tauck tours on land, at sea or on river cruises was increasing. While 84 percent of Australian customers were first-time Tauck travellers, Robin says she expects that to change because “90 per cent of our customers say they will travel with Tauck again”

She says this fits in with the company’s philosophy to encourage growth by word of mouth rather than advertising.

A third generation Tauck, Robin spoke fondly of her grandfather who founded the luxury tour company in 1925 and insisted clients received “something extra to delight them”.

“We consistently meet and exceed guest expectations.”

The typical Tauck client was affluent, aged over 55, took two to three holidays annually, wanted to be treated as an individual and wanted a holiday that increased their knowledge and experience.

She said one of the best kept secrets about Tauck was it provided accommodations and dining options that would cost the client much more if they were to book as independent travellers.

She also explained “agents can earn maximum commission dollars based on a total experience, not simply transportation and accommodation”.

By the way Robin was travelling on a Tauck World Discovery 15-day land/sea package which included an Orion cruise to PNG from Cairns.
