Australia relaxes Sri Lanka travel advisory

Tuesday, 16 Jun, 2019 0

The Sri Lanka tourism industry received another welcome boost with Australia downgrading its travel advisory.

The advisory has been officially lowered from Level 3 (reconsider your need to travel) to a Level 2 (exercise a high degree of caution).

It indicates the country has made strides to bring normalcy back after the devastating Easter bombings.

It is an important move for the country as Australia is a key source market for tourists.

Australia follows the UK lifting its travel warning, as well as the German, Swiss and Austrian governments.

"Tourism is the most significant part of our economy, supporting one in 10 families in Sri Lanka, so the relaxation of the advisory is excellent news. We have a close connection with Australia as one of our fastest growing inbound markets and look forward to welcoming visitors back with open arms," said Malik Fernando, owner of luxury resort operator Resplendent Ceylon.

"We are extremely grateful for the outpouring of support over the past month."
