Australian killed in shark attack

An Australian has been killed in a fatal shark attack in New Caledonia.

The 59-year-old man was swimming about 150 metres from the shore.

He suffered several severe bites.

Two people in a boat rescued him and took him ashore.

Unfortunately he died at the scene.

Nouméa city mayor ordered the closure of most beaches and drones were deployed to track shark movements.

A swimmer was attacked by a shark in the same area last month.
