Australians continue to love Malaysia
Australia remains in Malaysia’s top ten list of tourist-generating countries with 33,942 visitors in August 2008, representing a whopping 50.4% increase when compared to the same period last year.
Cumulatively, tourist arrivals from January to August 2008 were 14,730,437 – a steady 4.9% increase when compared to 2007 figures.
Director of Tourism Malaysia, Sydney, Mr Shahrin Mokhtar, says the positive and extremely encouraging arrival figures added a reason to extend Malaysia’s National Day celebrations last week.
“We’re very pleased with our performance in the Australian market thus far and are confident that tourist numbers from here will continue their upward trend,†says Shahrin.
“Malaysia’s recent Mega Sale season in July and August proved a huge hit for many travellers from around the world; and Australians topped as one of the biggest groups of shoppers during the Sales.
“Air Asia X’s commencement of four weekly flights from both Perth and Melbourne, in November 2008 will hugely supplement Malaysia Airlines’ existing daily flights from all major Australian ports to Kuala Lumpur.”
Air Asia X’s flights has plans to increase to daily return flights from Melbourne to KL during the peak period between December 2008 and mid-January 2009.
