Avianca deeply affected by Airbus A320 recall suspends ticket sales

Saturday, 29 Nov, 2025 0

After Airbus reported that a significant portion of the global A320 family aircraft fleet requires an urgent software update, Avianca is facing a deep crisis to manage fulfilling its timetable.

Airbus asks A320 operators to ground their aircraft when they arrive at their maintenance bases until the necessary software work is completed. This directive affects more than 70% of Avianca’s fleet.

Although the national airline of Colombia will begin working immediately on the modifications required by the manufacturer, significant operational disruptions will inevitably occur over the next 10 days.

Avianca has closed ticket sales for travel dates through December 8 — inclusively — in order to avoid a greater impact and facilitate the re-accommodation of passengers on available flights.

The airline will directly notify affected passengers and inform them of the options available so they may adjust their travel plans.

Avianca’s priority is to ensure the safety of its passengers and crew.

The company will carry out the modifications required by the aircraft manufacturer as soon as possible to resume operations and minimize service disruptions.

This decision is having harsh consequences for Avianca customers. Given the number of aircraft that will be grounded for these 10 days, disruptions are expected for tens of thousands of passengers. And could jeopardize the coming Christmas holiday.
