Aviation minister asked to explain levy ruling
Aviation minister Karen Buck will be quizzed by MPs today following her decision not to back the introduction of a £1 levy.
The Transport Select Committee is expected to ask the minister to explain the ruling before addressing the wider issue of financial protection.
The CAA will also be at the meeting.
Federation of Tour Operators director general Andy Cooper said it was important to keep the issue in the spotlight.
“Some people are saying the levy is not dead but I’m not convinced by that,” he said. “But the need for change is still there and the government have indicated they are willing to look at alternative schemes.”
The CAA is expected to produce yet another study into the issue.
Cooper warned the slowdown in the economy could further heighten the risk for travellers as firms struggle to survive.
