Avios unveils Apple Watch app
Avios has unveiled Europe’s first loyalty programme app for the new Apple Watch.
The global currency for a number of frequent flyer programmes including the British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus, claims to be the first loyalty programme in Europe to launch an app for the new Apple Watch.
It will be available when the Apple Watch launches on 24 April and will allow members of the Avios Travel Rewards Programme to easily see their total Avios balance, alert them when it increases, and help them choose how to spend their Avios.
The choice includes using Avios for flights to 182 destinations, as well as non-flight options to use Avios such as cases of wine and theatre tickets.
The Avios Watch app has the added functionality to appear as a widget in users’ ‘today view’.
This means customers can instantly view their Avios balance without the need to separately open the app.
Avios managing director Gavin Halliday said: “We are the first loyalty programme in Europe to launch an app for the new Apple Watch. This forms part of our commitment to digital innovation.
“The way that people interact with brands is changing and digital is a big part of that. We expect the Watch interface to become an increasingly important screen in our collectors’ lives.”
Avios is the global currency for the British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, Meridiana Club and Flybe frequent flyer programmes, as well as the currency for the Avios Travel Rewards Programme in the UK and South Africa.
