Azamara to revamp ships

Azamara Club plans an extensive revamp of its two ships with changes planned in staterooms, restaurants and spas.

“There will be upgrades to every item you can think of,” Azamara president and CEO Larry Pimente told USA TODAY.

“We’re just taking an inward look at the ships and saying it’s time for a major upgrade, so that we stay inside the luxury sector. By April of next year we will have two ships that essentially are brand new.”

The makeover will include completely re-modelled cabins, new outdoor Asian eateries and Wi-Fi.

Both ships’ spas will be extended with a new salon floor with a nail bar and pedicure area.

Two spa suites on each ship will also be created.

The 686-passenger Azamara Journey will be first to get the upgrades during dry dock in the Bahamas in January 2016, followed by sister ship Azamara Quest in Singapore in April of next year.

Pimente also hinted that the Royal Caribbean owned line may add to its two-vessel fleet with a new order in the near future.
