BA cancels flights due to Italy strike on Friday
Airlines are warning of disruptions and cancellations today (Friday) due to a four-hour strike by air traffic controllers in Italy.
A walk-out is planned from midday until 4pm UK time and has already caused some flights to be cancelled.
British Airways said it has pre-timed some services to avoid the four-hour strike period, but has been forced to cancel a small number of flights.
"We will be using larger aircraft where possible to re-accommodate customers whose original flights have been cancelled as a result of the strikes," it said.
EasyJet warned that every airline flying to and from Italy, as well as those flying within Italian airspace, will be affected.
"We are doing everything possible to minimise the impact to our customers and are working through our plans which we will communicate as soon as we can.
"If we are forced to cancel any flights, our customers will be informed by SMS and email, with up to date information on the situation available on easyJet,com."
Eurocontrol said regulations have been put in place for airspace over Milan, Padova, Rome and Brindisi.
