BA closes Aus and NZ call centres
British Airways has announced that it is closing its Australia and New Zealand call centres next February and relocating operations to India, with the loss of 30 jobs in Sydney and other staff to be found other BA roles.
BA has undertaken a global review of all call centre operations and as a result the setting up of a new wholly-owned subsidiary in India CallBA.
In a statement, BA said that consolidating its Australian call centre operation, which handles enquiries from travel agents and passengers will simplify our business and saves costs.
In addition they said that www.ba.com and agency website www.speedbirdclub.com was transforming its communication with the trade and consumers, allowing BA to communicate directly with agents in real-time and with the latest deals, travel information as well as answering specific questions.
Although there is continuing conjecture whether BA will continue flying to Australia, potentially passing the routes to OneWorld partner Qantas, BA insists that is committed to Australia.
