BA resumes Saudi services
British Airways flights to Saudi Arabia have been reinstated after several weeks out of service.
As reported by News From Abroad, the carrier suspended flights to the country on 13 August because there were fears over security in Saudi Arabia – but following a thorough review of security arrangements in and around Riyadh and Jeddah airports the decision was taken to recommence flights at the weekend.
Geoff Want, the carrier’s director of safety and security, said in a statement: “Our own team of security experts, together with British government officials, has worked closely with the Saudi authorities to implement a number of additional, robust and sustainable security measures. We are now satisfied that levels of security are appropriate for us to resume services.
“We will continue to liase with the UK government’s Department for Transport and will keep the situation under close review. We will not fly to any destination unless we are satisfied it is safe to do so.”
Riyadh flights started once again on Saturday; services into Jeddah recommenced on Sunday.
