BA scraps check-in for domestic flights
British Airways has predicted 80% of its customers will use self-service check-in by the time it moves to Terminal 5 in two years time.
The forceast came as the carrier confirmed it will scrap traditional check-in for all domestic flights from April 25.
From then, the only way to check-in will be through ba.com or at self-service airport kiosks.
Commercial director Martin George said the existing conventional desks will be converted into ‘fast bag drop’ desks for customers with luggage. Staff will be on hand to help passengers.
George said the airline wanted to create a faster, more efficient system in preparation for its move to Terminal 5 in 2008.
“Making the airport experience simpler and speedier for our customers is the cornerstone of our vision for Terminal 5 and we want to introduce many of these improvements now, ahead of our move,” he said.
Customers checking in online can print their boarding passes up to 24 hours before their flight allowing those without luggage to proceed directly to the boarding gate.
