BA takes next step with trials of New Distribution Capability
British Airways has added seat selection to its trial of New Distribution Capability.
It is inviting IT developers of agents, travel management companies, GDSs, and any other interested parties to help test the technology, which will allow them to directly access BA’s seat availability.
As part of an industry-wide initiative, led by aviation body IATA, BA has already began testing other services.
Since July 7, IT developers have been able to take part in a trial which will allow users to search for availability and pricing, validate price quotes and provide payment options, accept payments and issue tickets.
"Seat Availability will enable developers to view the availability and price of a customers’ preferred seat, as well as providing information on the layout of the cabin, such as where the toilets, aisles and galleys are, so customers can make informed decisions about their choice of seats," said Ian Luck, BA distribution strategy manager.
He said the next stage will be the ability to arrange for additional baggage.
Developers can register at developer.ba.com to take part in the trial, subject to approval.
