BA talks with unions after strikes
Carrier warns that there will still be delays today after weekend chaos
Unions are today holding talks with British Airways following the wildcat strikes that caused chaos for thousands of travellers at Heathrow at the weekend.
At least 80,000 passengers had to face cancellations as more than 300 flights were cancelled, following strikes on Friday and Saturday. While there were fewer flights cancelled yesterday, the airline has warned that there will still be delays today as it struggles to clear the backlog created by the strikes.
A spokesman stated this morning: “There probably will still be delays given the number of passengers we have still got in the airport but we hope these delays will be shorter than yesterday’s.”
The dispute comes in reaction to BA’s plans to introduce a new clocking-in procedure for staff. The carrier has reportedly offered staff a three per cent pay rise as long as they accept plans to introduce an electronic swipe card for staff; however, some say the system will be used to send staff home during quiet periods and recall them to make up time when it is busier.
