BAA announces job cuts
BAA has announced job cuts, but has dismissed reports in the weekend’s press that 2,000 positions are under threat.
The airports operator stressed that security and customer services role would be not affected by the cuts, which are part of an “efficiency” review.
According to reports in The Times, 2,000 jobs are on the cards, but in a statement released in response, BAA chief executive Stephen Nelson said the report was “exaggerated and misleading”.
“No decisions have been taken around the loss of support jobs and we do not recognise the specific number used by The Times,” he said.
“The BAA change programme has been running for several months and is designed to improve our oranisation and to invest efficiency savings from back office support functions in frontline customer service, as evidenced by our recent recruitment of 1500 new security guards.”
