Back Home in Indiana

Start in Ferdinand with a visit to Best Home Furnishings, one of the world’s largest chair manufacturers. Then tour the recently restored domes church of
Monastery Immaculate Conception. It is home to one of the country’s largest communities of Benedictine sisters. Dr. Ted’s Musical Marvels is a private collection of unique musical instruments.

Visit Huntingburg’s Historic 4th Street Shopping District with over two dozen specialty and antique shops before stopping at the Kimball International Showroom featuring the furniture maker’s residential and office lines. The afternoon concludes with stops in Jasper at St. Joseph Church, the Jasper Arts Center and orchards of Kapp Winery.

This evening a German dinner with entertainment is served at the Schnitzelbank,
one of the state’s top independent restaurants. Day Two begins in the French Lick area, which has just seen a major facelift of two of its architectural
marvels. Start at West Baden Springs National Historic Landmark, once again a working hotel. Then visit French Lick Springs Resort, reopened after a $350- million restoration and casino addition.

There’s time for a short wine tasting at French Lick Winery before lunch at the Beechwood Inn. Then we’re off for Amish country, where we begin at the
Gasthof Amish Village with various shops, a bakery, hotel and Amish restaurant. We continue with stops at the Amish Collar Shop, Raber’s Buggy Shop, Wagler’s Quilt Shop and the Red Barn. Homemade Amish food is on the menu tonight at the Gasthof Restaurant.

Our final day begins with a boat cruise on scenic Patoka Lake from Hoosier Hills Marina. We then travel to St. Meinrad Archabbey, a retreat that is also home to 135 Benedictine monks. Enjoy the magnificent architecture and shop for inspirational gifts at the Abbey Press shop. The morning’s final stop is at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial & Living Historical Farm in Lincoln City.
